Women’s football has been played in Britain for over 100 years but until 1962 the FA banned women’s games from being played at any clubs affiliated to the FA - yes that’s every football ground in the country! Fortunately times have changed and in 2012 a record crowd of 70,584 turned up at Wembley see Team-GB Women beat tournament favourites Brazil 1-0. And now there’s an Appleberry scarf for most of the major women’s teams in England.
