Where do you start with Real Madrid? It is the world’s richest football club (annual turnover of $650million) and the most valuable with an estimated worth of $4.4billion. Real Madrid has won a record nine European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles and a record number of La Liga titles.
The success has been delivered through a long-standing policy of bringing in the world’s best players – a list that includes Alfredo Di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas, Hugo Sanchez, Zinedine Zidane, Francisco Gento, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Gunter Netzer, Paul Breitner, Michael Laudrup, Ronaldo (the Brazilian one) and Ronaldo (the Portuguese one).
Unlike most European football clubs, Real Madrid's is owned and operated by its supporters. Along with Athletic Club Bilbao and FC Barcelona it is one of only three clubs to have never been relegated from the top flight of Spanish football.
Real Madrid plays in all white, although Los Blancos initially adopted a navy blue oblique stripe on their shirt. When the stripe was dropped the club subtly retained it their badge - it sits behind a decorative interlacing of the three initials of the club, MCF standing for Madrid Club de Futbol. This unofficial Appleberry scarf is made in those traditional colours of white, navy and gold.
