Partick Thistle Football Club was founded in 1876 in the small town of Partick which at the time was not part of the city of Glasgow. Partick was subsumed by Glasgow in 1912 and Partick Thistle is the city’s third biggest club.

The Jags won their first trophy in 1921, beating the mighty Glasgow Rangers 1–0 in the Scottish Cup Final. Half a century later Thistle put one over on the other half of the Old Firm, hammering a Celtic side that included Kenny Dalglish 4–1 in the Scottish League Cup final.

Despite the myth, comedy-legend Billy Connolly is not actually a Jags fan – although he does come from Partick. However famous Thistle fans include US TV host Craig Ferguson, Coronation Street actor Chris Fountain (Tommy) and journalist Laura Kuenssberg – currently working as Business Editor for ITV News.
