Oxford United were founded in 1893 as Headington United and adopted their current name in 1960. Also known as The Yellows or The Us, the club joined the Football League in 1962 after winning the Southern League.

Between 1984 and 1986 Oxford United gained successive promotions to reach the top flight of English Football and won the League Cup in 1986 beating Queens Park Rangers 3-0 in the Wembley final.

The Us have played at the 12,500 capacity Kassam Stadium in Oxford since 2001 when they moved from the Manor Ground, their home for the previous 76 years.
