League Cup Runners-up: 1990Oldham Athletic were founded as Pine Villa FC in 1895, the club played in local Manchester and Lancashire leagues. When rivals Oldham County FC folded in 1899, Pine Villa FC moved into their stadium, the Oldham Athletic Ground (now known as Boundary Park) and changed their name to Oldham Athletic. The club is nicknamed The Latics and still plays at Boundary Park.

Oldham Athletic’s most successful period came in the 1990s under manager Joe Royle. The Latics reached the 1990 League Cup Final where they lost 0-1 to Nottingham Forest. The next season, Oldham Athletic won promotion to English football’s First Division for the first time in 68 years. In their first season back in the top flight, the club finished 17th and became one of the founding members of the newly-formed Premier League.
