Nestling in such a beautiful city, Norwich is one of the nicest grounds to visit and the fans are possibly the friendliest in England. The Canaries’ League Cup Final victory over Sunderland was such a friendly occasion that, since than, whenever the two clubs meet they complete for the Friendship Trophy.
That victory in 1985 was one of four League Cup Finals Norwich City have appeared in, winning two and losing the other two.
Norwich City were founder members of the Premier League in 1992–93; just before Christmas that year they were top of the league and eight points clear! Eventually the East Anglians finished in third place and a brief European adventure beckoned.
The following season Norwich beat the mighty Bayern Munich home and away in the UEFA Cup before being knocked out by Italian giants Inter Milan. No other English team has ever won at Munich’s Olympic Stadium.
In 1997, with the club in financial trouble celebrity Chef Delia Smith took a majority stake in the club and since then she’s kept Norwich solvent. And visible. Especially when she decided to encourage the home supporters during a home game with Manchester City in 2005.
Bedecked in a Norwich City scarf and looking (and sounding) like she’d had one too many glasses of hospitality, she marched onto the pitch at half-time, grabbed a microphone and slurred over the public address "Where are you? Where are you? Let's be avin you! Where’s our twelfth man? Come on!"
An owner who genuinely loves their club? Priceless.
