Forest Green Rovers FC was founded in 1890 as Nailsworth & Forest Green by a local church minister. They play their home games at The New Lawn Stadium and have many nicknames including Rovers, The Green, FGR, The Little Club On The Hill, The Green Army and The Lawnmowers.

In 1981–82 Forest Green achieved a league and Cup “double” winning the Hellenic League championship and the FA Vase under manager Bob Mersell at Wembley, beating Rainworth Miners Welfare 3–1 in the final.
