FC Augsburg is based in the city in Augsburg, Bavaria. The team was founded in 1907 as FC Alemania Augsburg and changed their name to BC Augsburg from 1921 to 1969.
The team had a troubled period in the early 2000s when they were relegated to the fourth tier of German football division for two seasons. FC Augsburg recovered and soon climbed the leagues reaching Bundesliga in 2001
